The equipment is tested and packed and we are ready to start driving out to St. Michaels Church in Poway in a couple of hours.   Unfortunately, we will NOT have time to check the Sandiego500.org email again, until AFTER the races have completed on Saturday.

Be sure to allow yourself enough time to park and walk to the race area before your check in time.

Look for the race flags outside the building we are in. We are in the building marked with the green arrow on this photo:

Because we have packed up all of our equipment (including the computers for the race) we cannot accept any further late registrations** for the 2023 San Diego 500.

** If your pack missed out on registering, and you would like to register as a standby you can come by on Saturday.  To register as a standby, show up NO EARLIER than the start of your district's check-in time, wait in the registration line, and ask to register as a stand-by.  (You must provide proof from your Pack that the racer is the eligible racer for the pack. )

The San Diego 500 is coming back this year. We will be having the event at the Scoutapalooza on May 13th. Registration is live and we are all looking forward to some wonderful racing by Scouts this year.

Remember that your invitation to race does NOT include admission to the fair - you must purchase tickets either in advance or at the gate. Be sure to allow yourself enough time to park and walk to the race area before your check in time.

Because we have packed up all of our equipment (including the computers for the race) we cannot accept any further late registrations** for the 2018 San Diego 500.

Pinewood Derby Season!

We've started dusting off our equipment and polishing everything to get ready for the 2017 San Diego 500!

We've reviewed our notes from last year and determined that there are no rules clarifications needed for this years' race.  If we later determine that a rules change or clarification is necessary, we will post information here leading you to the rules section that was modified.

Last year we debuted our new controller for the Time Machine and had a record 81 Cub Scouts race for the Trophys! - we encourage every pack to have every cub scout bring their car to enter in the Time Machine race!  Notes:  All the same rules as the '500' apply to the Time Machine except it's open to all.

That's right -  "The Time Machine" trophy race is open to EVERY Cub Scout from EVERY pack - if they built the car this year. 

Dad's - here's your chance to show off your car building skills - you won't be eligible for the trophy but you can see how your skills stack up against everyone else!  Again - the trophies (1st, 2nd, & 3rd) are only for the fastest Cub Scouts on the Time Machine track.  Can you beat last years fastest time of 3.2364 seconds?!?

We're putting the finishing touches on the sign-up pages and expect to have registration open for you by January 30th.  Check our website or Facebook page for an update when we open it up!

We have been hard at work the past year, and have a new timer system for the Time Machine track - we encourage every pack to have every cub scout bring their car to enter in the Time Machine race!  (Notes:  All the same rules as the '500' apply to the Time Machine except it's open to all.

That's right -  "The Time Machine" trophy race is open to EVERY Cub Scout from EVERY pack - if they built the car this year.

The 43rd San Diego 500 is complete!

The weather cooperated with us this year, and thanks to the excellent tent provided by the Council, we have the 43rd San Diego 500 in the books!   Almost 150 Cub Scouts from San Diego and Imperial counties got the opportunity to race on our track.

 We'll have the Time Machine back in action next year, so bring your cars even if you don't win at your pack!

This event would not be possible without the hard work of all of our volunteers.  Thank-you once again to all of the race staff as well as the District staff that came by throughout the day to cheer on the Packs from their districts.

Finally, thank YOU race fans - We do this year after year because of our love of the event and the joy we see it bring the boys.   Also, many of you took a moment to thank the staff throughout the day, and it was definitely appreciated.
